About the Artist

Jose Gregorio Leon

Panama

José Gregorio León (Venezuela, 1967) is a photographer and visual artist based in Panama since 2011. His work explores the relationships between image, artifice, identity, and contemporary visual culture through photography, portraiture, and collage.

Since 2017, he has developed an authorial practice focused on the symbolic construction of images through processes of appropriation, fragmentation, and staging. His projects address themes related to the body, technology, memory, and representations of femininity within popular culture.

He graduated from the New York Institute of Photography, holds a Master’s Degree in Professional Photography from ESdesign Barcelona, and completed the PHotoEspaña Master’s Program. He has participated in workshops and educational programs with Nelson Garrido, Erik Kessels, Aaron Sosa, Erik Del Búfalo, and Duncan Wooldridge, among others.

His work has been featured in group exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Panama, Diablo Rosso, Centro Cultural Internacional, Centro de Arte Alcobendas (Spain), and Ciudad de las Artes de Panamá. In 2021, he presented his solo exhibition “Silicon Valleys” at the Alliance Française of Panama.
