Ce n'est pas un lapin - Limited Edition of 1 Photograph

'This is not a rabbit' (it's a memory). Part of the 'Deasil' collection - the piece is a manipulation/incorporation of the first photo I ever took. I was seven and it was 1979. The garden of my childhood home, the subject: my pet rabbit 'Tiberius'. Grazing next to Dad's 'office' chair (which I'd dragged outside for the 'shot'). Last year (2019) when creating 'Deasil', I used a torch/flashlight and 'back-lit' the original photo -then (using a pair of tweezers) I positioned an X-ray of my head in the foreground to create the image. The 'inspiration' came from reflections on how memory and personal experience ‘colour’ the way we 'see' things. The way we recall events, people, places etc. The garden, the chair, the rabbit have all subsequently changed form and exist only in my head. Internally vivid -yet externally only a conceptual representation/washed out image of the past. 'The Treachery of Images' entwined itself around the creation of 'Ce n'est pas un lapin'.
