About The Artwork

Cell Structure (from the 'Speck of a Pigeon's Eye' series) – limited edition of ten Cell Structure is one of a spectacular series (entitled 'Speck of a Pigeon's Eye') that has, literally, been extracted from an image of a pigeon's eye using an intriguing process developed over time by Dr Shapley. This is a mechanical photographic process, yet this image renders up a a myriad of organic, idiosyncratic detail more akin to illustration or design. There are a number of ways this versatile image can be enjoyed. Firstly, straight-up under gallery (or room) lighting, all colours on the quality Kodak Professional Endura Premier Metallic Paper come to life. Secondly, changing, coloured lights (included in the price of the work) may be applied. If the room is dark, different colours will appear from time to time and the work will seem animated. For extra enhanced viewing, ChromaDepth 3D glasses (included) can be worn, causing the image to jump out of the frame (this is a spectacular experience when combined with the coloured lights). Work from this series was displayed in the 'Garbage Guts' exhibition (September 2013) and received the following critical review: “Greg Shapley’s exhibition takes the ubiquitous pigeon and transforms it into a wondrous digital rainbow... In the Speck of Pigeon’s Eye series, these pictures are transformed into dazzling animated displays of light and colour. By intensely focusing on the pigeon’s eye, Shapley has produced a series that entices the viewer. The metallic prints shine like multihued strands of DNA double helix, and illustrate the beauty which dwells within the most ordinary facets of city life.” (The City Hub, Sydney, September 2013) SPECIFIC DETAILS: SIZE: 120x120cm PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER: Kodak Professional Endura Premier Metallic Paper FRAMING: Aluminium backing with face mounted acrylic (professionally printed and mounted by leading photo printers and framers) INCLUDED WITH WORK: wall mounting materials, 2 x multicoloured mains-voltage LED lights and 4 x ChromaDepth 3D glasses, certificate of authenticity PACKAGING: Wooden crate and protective materials (safe delivery guaranteed) This work will be printed in a very limited edition of ten.
