archival pigment B&W print from a film negative photo Oct 1990, Digital print Feb 2017 this print is not framed approx 11 1/2" x 18" image on 16x20" Canson Rag Photographique paper. This is a matte finish paper that works to enhance the graphic quality of the image print #2 from an edition of 25 + 2 A/P for total edition of 27 This image from just under the Chrylser gargoyle includes the Empire State Bldg and the World trade Center in the distance. History must mute some of the exuberance I felt while taking this photo in Oct of 1990. I was a camera assistant working on some timelapse for the title sequence of "Bonfire of the Vanities". A special scaffolding was built outside the 61st floor, and I spent a couple weeks out there on the platform running a time lapse camera.

I have worked most of my professional life in the movies. That experience has left me with an instinct toward a narrative in my photos. Not always as a straightforward story, but at least as a structure to organize pieces of an image to work together. I look to elevate the mundane in my work, to create an image that rewards repeated visits. Much of my work is a continuing portrait of Los Angeles. I moved to Los Angeles as a young man to go to UCLA Film School, and it turned into a lifelong adventure. I have collected some in my self-published book “Small Pieces of Los Angeles briefly Illuminated”.
