Deep Silence exhibition
Shot in Antarctica on 35mm B&W film and printed on high quality, smooth cotton rag paper (300gsm). This series visually realises a visceral experience of the Antarctic sublime, documenting the effects extreme temperatures have on film. Antarctica left cold, wet fingerprints on my film, and on the artist's body. The text, written with marker on top of the print, is an original Hardcastle poem. It speaks to her experience of deep time in Antarctica, moments on ancient ice that expand to include the distant past and the distant future. For Hardcastle, deep time is a spatio temporal scale that exceeds the human, taking her outside or beyond her own creative experience.
