Dueling Motorcycles Photograph

Motorcycles are very interesting art subjects. They are compact, complicated, very personal machines. With racing bikes for instance, humans literally have to intimately drape their forms around them in order to operate them. Some motorcycles are designed to be ridden in the same way we ride horses. Swapping the horse for a more powerful machine, is an artist's (and anthropologist's) dream. This image is from a series of 10 studies of motorcycles and riders. They are manipulated static images created to give the impression of speed and danger. The images were created in reverse. I had a clear idea of how I wanted the finished image to look and set out to create the photo of the bikes, stationary with properly-dressed riders grabbing and pushing each other's bikes.
