My name is Veka Koestinger. I was born in Oaxaca (Mexico). I lived in Spain and I now live in France. I am 25 years old. I have always been attracted to art. I started by being part of the high school film club. Then, I did a year of art prep. This allowed me to enroll in the bachelor’s program in photography/video at the Gobelins Image School, where I was able to study thanks to a scholarship from Universal Music France. Then, a year after my graduation, I entered an equivalency in my third year at the Beaux Arts of Nice, the Villa Arson. I am mainly interested in photography and imagery. Because I find a comforting freedom within which I allow myself to join different practices. (Photography also allows me to create new worlds.) I am mainly inspired by my twin sister, the human, the cinematography, the light, the absurd, certain places and what’s in my head. The artists who are for me an inspiration are Gregory Crewdson (photographer), Tim Walker (photographer), Szilveszter Makó (photographer), Leonora Carrington (painter), Yorgos Lanthimos (director). I have several ways of working: - Through my obsessions like water, chiaroscuro, flying birds, a moment and more. The photos are taken on the spot, as if I were taking notes. On the contrary, I sometimes observe, stop to watch people live and be. I find humans fascinating. The last step would be my choice to leave them as they are, or to divert to create new imaginary worlds, making them surreal or disruptive. - Another way is to control everything within the framework. I plan everything, I know how the final image will be. I like to create scenes, to show fragments of fictional stories in which the observer can imagine a sequel. I like that these are absurd, or that there is a “disturbing strangeness”. - Explore the object. Create them and bring them to life by staging and taking photos. I am in search of a specific aesthetic, I like beauty. Through my work I want to show who I am, my thoughts and my quirks. Welcome to the planet Veka
