ABOUT THE ARTWORK

GRID FACES is a C-Type work printed on aquarell paper. It is a beautiful and colourful work and I'am font of the work myself. GRID FACES is a a large digital print with a limited edition of 10 copies. 2 have been sold to Norwegian collectors and I keep one to myself. GRID faces is part of my GRID artwork series. These are artworks where many different photographic expressions are intertwined. I have used analog photographs in combination with digital scans recorded with my mobile phone. In the series I use portraits, double portraits and anatomical structures that are filtered through geometric, urban and architectural structures. This contrast plays the relationship between the outer and the inner where the vulnerable life is related to the objective external reality. The layered layers of structures are based on an exploration of the imagery of photography in a digital world where the photographic media has been further democratized through the ongoing image flow that the social media contain. In my work, it is a point to use the mobile camera as a medium and a scanning device that samples my reality. These mobile scans form the basis for further programming and digital processing, precisely because it is here today and the next generation’s relationship to image expression is formed. The subject GRID refers to the public visibility and exposure the individual is exposed to, inter alia, by monitoring and social media. In this context, the use of the human face becomes a picture of the fact that there are always dimensions of human complex psychology that avoids a simplified registration. The irreversible can also be associated with being «off the grid» or disconnected from the digital reality. The human subject in the form of portraits and anatomical forms expresses an alienation related to the mechanical self-sustainability of the structures. The Mobile Scans series is a collage of mobile recordings taken from the train window at the Kongsvinger course. The new technology gives us new opportunities. With the artist’s own words, our cellphone scrambles our lives, at the same time as we need it to gain control and comprehensiveness in a world where no one has a complete overview.
