About The Artwork

When I first visited this site, it was fairly unknown, and if you didn't know where it was, it had to be cold enough to see the steam. we could drive to almost the side of the pool...I've experienced some profound moments in the immediate area.. like looking up at 3 am and seeing the Milky Way for the first time. I mean really seeing it.. and saying out loud that we were about to be rained on by that storm cloud... to which everyone laughed at me.. fresh out of LA. When I solo winter mountaineered 10 days in the High Sierra for my 21st birthday... I came here the night before my trek... and ended up saving two people from freezing after their car stuck in the mud at 2 am.... the thing about this place... your in the middle of the big wide open. The Owens Valley. the Eastern Sierra crest... these hot springs... and every now again a car engine breaks the stillness as it moves across the valley on the hi-way some miles south. we are standing a few feet from that hot spring right behind us... the steam is warming the back of our legs as we take in the fine view of the escarpment.... Open space. massive granite walls... miles of sage, the sweet scent filling the nostrils...the mooing of a cow... and the twirtling warbol of the red throat black birds..a kill dear kill dear kill dear...Dawn greets you.

EVERY MINUTE IS A DIFFERENT PICTURE. My grandmother says to me at age 3, driving home from her sisters funeral.. I inherited my first art supplies... ink well pens and a well. My great aunt was a working artist and they knew i had the GIFT. What do you mean? I asked. "see how everything changes as we drive? and if we stop.. the sun keeps moving and the shadows change!" This messed me up for 30 years, till i figured out how to stop the image from changing!!!!. i still have those pens and still use them. When in Kindergarten I was told to make a life size door cut out of myself in my adult career... it was with a goatee, and a pallet.. a smock and beret!!! at age 14 i had epiphany to not take any instruction from any art teacher and let art find its pure self inside of me.. that is a linger story than fits here. EVOKING NATURE IN THE SOUL OF MANKIND growing up in Los Angeles.. I could not see a star at night.. if you did go for a hike at night.. a shadow was cast up the mountain from the city light below!!! When i first saw the milky way.. i thought it was a thunder cloud about to rain on me in the middle of the night!!! I later came to be comfortable sleeping outdoors over 200 nights a year with out a tent! While this is over dose for most folks... we all need some connection to nature in our lives!!!! And having been intimate with her in all her glory... from the ocean to the mountains in every weather and even have been consumed by wild fires....it is my greatest motivation to bring the spirit of the soul of nature .. the ability to ground oneself... the ability to know that there is serenity waiting out there.....into the city.. into the home .. into the heart and soul of mankind.. that we do not forget that it is Nature that sustains us in the end. i spent 10 years fighting wild fires, repelling from helicopters as a search and rescue fire fighter in our national parks and forests, I ran inmate fire crews and I cheated death.... in the winters I skied. I was a national ranked extreme skier using telemark gear with only my toes attached to the ski. i like the most difficult equations I can find to solve... I prefer to sail over power boat... right? I made an invention/product so that i can ski with my easel into the deep winter and paint.. and ski back to my rig...I don't mind taking some risk in my art...
