About The Artwork

The KARAL is a Gorilla skull Replica Masterpiece with 30.000 Swarovski crystals in diamond colors with antelope horns at the back placed on an original antique African spear from colonial times mounted on an iron plate. "The Grace of the Unknown" combines sculptures with photography of the sculptures in fascinating and mysterious landscapes and surroundings. The sculptures are always showcased in a natural but out-of-world environment. The feature film "Gorillas in the Fog" about the work of the primatologist Dian Fossey made the endangered gentle vegetarian's giants world-famous. That caused me to go on a trip to Costa Rica where I was so fascinated by these gentle giants and I will never forget this impressive encounter. Unfortunately, gorillas are still threatened with extinction because their habitat is being destroyed more and more. "Therefore this work and my ambition are dedicated to life, not death; my aim is to give something back to nature, not to take from it. With the soul gone, the body becomes just an ornament. These objects are reshaped, transformed, and brought back to life, to regain their place as a symbol of the beauty of nature. It´s my opportunity to freeze that moment of beauty and strength. It is a reflection of the beauty of nature and our obligation to preserve it." Each sculpture is photographed to recreate the experience of seeing these unique creatures in their natural habitat and environment. The photo aims to capture the one moment that gives depth to beauty. Winner of the Global Art Awards Tokyo 2021! Evolution and the associated selection and mutation fascinates me. Existence itself, the struggle for life, and adaptation to the environment is the theme I unite in my art. I'm spending a lot of time searching for rare original specimens, bone and skull find as the basis for my sculptures. Then I begin to unite the animal world, imagination, and their enemies in art. With the soul gone, the body becomes just an ornament. These objects are reshaped, transformed, and brought back to life, to regain their place as a symbol of the beauty of nature. In the unusual crossings and expressions, the hybrid creatures get their surreal features. I create my vision of how living beings and nature - develop under different environmental conditions - creating a fascinating, mystical world. Light is one of the essential elements of my art. Therefore I combine elaborate craftsmanship with the highest quality materials. Each sculpture is embellished with up to 40.000 Swarovski crystals which are the recurring theme in all my artwork. The crystals create a unique, intriguing presence for each piece adding the dimension of light as one of the essentials of our being: the material to create matter. It elicits millions of facets in a single beam of light. Nowhere is beauty better set in the scene than in nature. I love the aesthetics of nature and playing with light to highlight its beauty, its complexity, and finding beauty in the darkness and the shadows. I like the notion of making the unseen, seen. With my sculptures I’ve been experimenting with the patterns and textures found within the natural world, combining scale and context to create new species that, while being wholly grounded in reality, feel other-worldly.
