Will Hadwen is an interdisciplinary artist hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, known for his diverse and thought-provoking bodies of work. With a background in fine arts and a master's degree in the field, Will's artistic journey began in photography and has since expanded to encompass drawing, printmaking, painting, sound, time-based media, and immersive installations. Will's work delves into the conceptual exploration of human-made environments and spaces, inviting viewers to reflect on their connection and emotional resonance. He finds inspiration in quotidian spaces like industrial buildings, parking buildings, and alleyways, which evoke a range of emotions despite their utilitarian nature. His art is characterized by a keen attention to lighting, space, composition, and an emphasis on freshness. Will embraces spontaneity and intuition in his creative process, infusing his works with both energy and serenity. His pieces possess an attitude and noise that coexist with inclusivity and accessibility, allowing viewers to explore their own interpretations. In collaboration with his long-time partner, Maxine Macaulay (known as Goodnight My Darling), Will has embarked on joint projects that bridge the realms of visual art and music. Their collaborative endeavors have resulted in captivating music videos and explored the intersection of different art forms. Will Hadwen proudly identifies as an early-career artist with an insatiable hunger for exploring big ideas that seek a home in the world. With a positive and optimistic outlook, he strives to infuse his work with deep contemplation and a holistic perspective, aiming to provide the viewer with a sense of connectivity. Will's art is an invitation to engage with the interconnectedness of things.
