About The Artwork

Liz, Sundown Canyon (1975) Limited edition of 30 prints, signed and numbered. Image size: 17.63 x 17.9 Print size: 20 x 24 in This photo was shot with Ektachrome 2 1/4 film rated at 8000 ISO, in the late afternoon with just before the sun set. Developed in Rodinol black and white developer, then redeveloped in the C-22 color negative process. The image has been reversed from a positive to a negative. This process worked best in subdued light and produces an overall soft grain. I did this photograph for an art class I had at Art Center College. I wanted to create an image that looked like a painting, as I have always been influenced by Impressionist style artwork. When Liz kicked the water with her foot, this added the feel of movement and sensuality. Printed on Ilford Gold Fiber Silk paper 310 gram, 100 % cotton rag.

I grew up with photography as my father worked as a reporter/photographer in the late 1940s to the early 1950s, before he became involved in the aerospace industry. Through him I became fascinated with the magic of photography. I began to take photo classes in college and later attended Art Center College of Design, graduating in 1976. I had a small studio on Sunset Blvd through the late 1980s then did a trip to Thailand and decided to move there in 1990. Over the years I have worked for Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, and done assignments for The United Nations, Newsweek, Gamma Liaison, Getty Images. Animal Planet, Homeless International and other organizations in Asia.
