About the Artist

Veka Koestinger

France

I was born in Oaxaca (Mexico) in 2001, I lived in Spain for five years during my childhood and I now live in the south of France. I started by being part of the high school’s cinema club. Then, I did a year of art preparatory classes in Paris at the Atelier de Sèvres. This allowed me to join the bachelor’s program in photography/videography at the Gobelins School of Image, where I was able to study thanks to a scholarship from Universal Music France. A year after my graduation, I started my third-year equivalency at the Beaux Arts de Nice, the Villa Arson, then I obtained my National Diploma of Art in June 2026.

I am mainly interested in photography and imagery. Because I find a comforting freedom within which I allow myself to join different practices.
I am mainly inspired by my twin sister, humans, cinematography, the lights, the absurd, certain places and what’s in my head. I am in search of a specific aestheticism.
I have several ways of working:
- Through my obsessions like water, chiaroscuro, flying birds, a moment and more.
The photos are taken on the spot, as if I were taking notes. On the contrary,
I sometimes observe and stop to watch people live and be. I find humans
fascinating. The last step is the choice I make to leave them as they are, or to modify them to create new imaginary worlds, making them surreal or disruptive.
- Another way is to control everything within the framework. I plan everything, I know how the image will be. I like to create scenes, to show fragments of fictional stories in which
the observer can imagine a sequel. I like that these are absurd, or that there is a
“disturbing strangeness”.
- Exploring the object. Create them and bring them to life by staging them and taking photos of them.
Through my work, I want to show who I am, my thoughts, and my quirks.
