Mannequin Kiss - Limited Edition of 30 Photograph

Mannequins have played an integral role in my artwork from the beginning of my photography, and the mannequin models in the image have been in my studio for over 30 years. Then, and now, I'm intrigued by the way they are symbols of our cultural expectations of Gender and Beauty. This image grew out of an exploration of the kiss, an intimate private act which is also very public. Few simple acts are so revolutionary for any marginalized persons, and so mundane and natural at the same time for the American society. A simple kiss is a gesture in many cultures, but here, as lips are so close together, a more special relationship is suggested. I hope viewers of this work enjoy all of the various little elements that add to the overall image, and help the user create their own story or narrative to accompany the image. The "models" retain a beauty and glamour even as they display markings and other signs their age and condition, and remind us to consider other humans similarly as beautiful, glamorous and important. Prints are 24" x 24" bled to the edge, with no border. They look lovely in a shadow box framing against a black background. Prints are signed and numbered on the back.
