ABOUT THE ARTWORK
A fine art, giclée print on Hahnemule Photo Rag. This image is of camellias picked from a garden tended by me, my mother, my grandmother and my great-grandmother. The tangled composition of glorious blooms speaks to how my own identity is entwined with my strong female ancestors. Suspended in a void of black, distorted and scratched, the beauty of the camellias nonetheless shines through. The distortion is achieved in the analogue world, before I take the digital image from which the final print is made.

Still life painting and photography can take every-day, unnoticed objects and show them to be something extraordinary. Most of my inspiration comes from my everyday experiences, a glimpse of a familiar face or object in an unfamiliar light can start a whole new chain of creativity for me.
