About The Artwork

Limited Edition, Fine Art print on Moab Lasal Exhibition Luster Paper. Prints are available in various sizes. Contact Saatchi Art. This photograph of the 500-year-old stone Moai statues of Easter Island captures one of the most spiritual moments of my life. I took it in the middle of a pitch-black starlit night and required a 20-minute exposure. The statues were illuminated with a splash of focused light painting. The curved lines in the sky are stars reflecting the earth’s rotation and the circular pattern in the right sky represents the location of the North Star. The Moai statues, which are symbols of power and meant to ward off enemies, average 13 feet in height and were created to pay homage to the islanders’ Polynesian ancestors. Of the 900 initially sculpted, 400 remain on what is one of the most remote inhabited places on earth.

See Wall Street Journal article (April 2021) https://www.wsj.com/articles/retired-physician-photography-11618003153?st=vd5vu50i1xrpi2x&reflink=article_email_share I was first introduced to photography when my father gave me a camera for my 10th birthday and I have been captivated ever since. I have always been a very visual person, having looked inside the human body for 36 years as a radiologist. Photography has allowed me to look outside the human body into its surroundings and occasionally back again into its soul. I want my works to inspire feelings of thoughtfulness, serenity and wonder in the majesty of simple beauty. To peak your curiosity, such that you want to learn more, or even better, go experience these cultures for yourself. To capture a distinct meaningful moment and provide the timeless gift of experiencing that moment over and over again; that, to me, is the magic of photography. That is what makes me happy.
