Morning View Photograph - Limited Edition of 10

We decided to have a day-trip excursion to Sintra, from the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, a place that was once the summer escape of Portugal's kings, and those with money and a desire to be close to royalty built their palaces amid luxuriant gardens in the same neighbourhood. At foot of those craggy hills rested a small town, where a beautiful ornate water fountain is situated in a nearby square. Before ascending the hills, through the lush green climbs, to explore a once-upon-a-time Moorish castle and the idiosyncratic Pena Palace - I stopped to take in the view from below and saw our destination hidden among the greenery behind this beautiful fountain. Circling it and taking various pictures from countless angles, not one image seemed to have come out poorly; they were all so vibrant and picturesque that I could not make up my mind as to what would be 'the one' to share with the rest of the world. My mind was settled on this one - the bright hot sun, reaching its midday crescendo, the wisps of cloud disappearing into the measureless blue, following a refreshing overnight rain shower, the caught-in-midair droplets, the sheer sense of life and flourish of the green forests in the distance, where homes, villas and bohemian apartments dot the landscape and ring the foot of the hill itself. I remember it being a particularly hot day and there was something about being close to water, hearing the water droplets and the refreshing influence it had on me before stepping into our planned adventure for the day. This image takes me back every time I look at it and I hope you too can get a sense of Portuguese lifestyle and the serenity of Sintra, as well as being inspired to one day visit yourself - and if you already have, I hope it inspires you to return.
