Garden of weeds: a visual exploration Inspired by the delicate beauty of nature's often-overlooked elements, my project "Garden of weeds" is a tribute to the intricate and resilient flora that thrives at the margins of human attention. The inspiration for this work comes from my childhood fascination with nature's unnoticed details, as well as my deep-seated belief in the profound beauty found in what many dismiss as mere weeds. Through macro photography, I capture these spontaneous plants in stunning detail, elevating them from their often-ignored status to subjects of significant artistic and ecological reflection. By focusing on these plants in black and white, I strip away the distractions of color to highlight their form, texture, and delicate nuances. This choice of medium and style allows me to create portraits that reveal the ethereal and often unseen aspects of these plants, transforming them into captivating works of art. I hope that viewers of "Garden of weeds" will experience a shift in perspective, finding beauty and value in elements of nature that are typically overlooked. My aim is to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection, encouraging a deeper appreciation for the biodiversity that surrounds us. I want my audience to see these plants not just as weeds, but as symbols of resilience and natural elegance. This project reflects my commitment to environmental awareness and the celebration of nature’s understated beauty. By bringing these plants into the spotlight, I aspire to foster a greater appreciation for the often-unnoticed wonders of our natural world and to inspire a more mindful and respectful interaction with the environment.

Light, nature, and the art of photography I’ve always been captivated by light—its secrets, its power, its ever-changing expression. My journey in photography began in a darkroom, where I learned to manipulate light to evoke emotions. Growing up in a family of photographers in Corigliano d’Otranto, Lecce, I was surrounded by the art of capturing moments. After working in Verona with my older brother, I moved to Bologna for love. The city’s vibrant cultural scene profoundly shaped my photographic perspective. In 1996, I opened my own studio, merging my passion for photography with darkroom development. Specializing in fine art prints, I gained recognition, collaborating with galleries and Italian artists. In 2007, I became the official stage photographer for the Fondazione Teatro Comunale di Bologna, a role I held until 2021. The theater opened a new world to me—a world I’d admired as a spectator but now explored with my camera. Capturing performances required constant observation and a meticulous eye. I attended rehearsals, studied gestures, and waited for the perfect moment to capture the essence of the performance. Over time, I felt the need for a quieter life, closer to nature. Together with Lucia, my life partner who shares my love for nature, we moved to Salento. Our love for the environment is more than just a desire to live outdoors; it’s a commitment to understanding and caring for it. We formalized this passion by attending a course with the Italian Association of Environmental Hiking Guides (AIGAE). A significant milestone in my artistic journey is my project focused on spontaneous plants, rooted in childhood memories where I was fascinated by the shapes of nature. The perception of a flower changes depending on the viewer’s perspective and the light revealing its hidden aspects. Nearly every morning, Lucia and I take brisk walks, observing the landscape around us. She often brings home small treasures—an acorn, a leaf, the corolla of a flower—simple, natural elements full of wonder. Her curiosity is the muse for this delicate yet bold project. I see myself as a listener, attentive to the world around me and ready to shift perspectives. I began photographing what I encountered on my walks, initially keeping everything in its natural context. As the project evolved, I sought greater control, bringing subjects into the studio.
