About the Artist

John Griebsch

United States

John Griebsch is an aerial photographer and pilot whose aerial landscapes depict natural and man-made landforms<br><br>John Griebsch photographs American and European landscapes, mostly from his vintage Cessna aircraft. The images depict the pattern, color and design of natural and man-made landforms. "Each image reflects a view of the way a detail of the earth's surface becomes a universe unto itself. My aerial photographs present a sense of selective design applied to an extremely small but significant area of the vast landscape over which I fly. I find the need to make geographical sense of the earth, as well as the need to make visual sense of a photograph. My work involves ambiguity of scale and the strong graphic quality of nature, and of the hand of man on nature."<br>
