ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The black texture of the lava field contrasts against the molten lava oozing from below, The molten lava looks like a tongue rolling across the black lava field. The cooled black lava has a blueish tint which contrasts the red/orange of the molten lava. The blue horizon shows envelops a scene that appears peaceful but is actually smoking hot, loud and very dangerous. Print only, image size, 20x13.35.

I've been working as a photographer for over 30 years. I've lived my entire life in Minnesota and have traveled extensively for work (assignment photography) and personally. I'm a self-taught photographer. After graduating with a degree in political science, I started working as a photography assistant. I learned about all different types of commercial photography and the business surrounding it. Most importantly I worked with a wide array of photographers, learned different techniques and observed a variety of styles. After a couple of years of assisting, I started working as a full time staff photographer at Best Buy Company. In 1991 I started my business. I specialize in lifestyle and portrait photography. I've worked with magazines, design firms, advertising agencies and corporate clients. I enjoy the fast paced style of photographing people and creating the mood for whatever the assignment calls for. I take pride in my ability to get the talent/models to interact in an authentic and convincing manner. My curiosity about the world around me has fueled my interest in photography. I'm constantly looking at photography and design work. I've been influenced by Richard Avedon and Frank Ockenfels 3. I always want to create photos that are from a new perspective. My interest in landscape work is a response to the edited nature of commercial photography. I want my landscape photographs to be pristine and show no evidence of human activity. I want the viewer to think about the landscape before it was altered by people. My portfolio of landscape photographs is focused on the elements of light, texture, shapes, lines and atmosphere. Please do not hesitate to reach out for more information about my work. I am happy to help.
