Nazca Desert I (119x84cm) Photograph - Limited Edition of 25

This aerial image showing the mountains coming out of the Ica Desert by Nazca in Peru, and was captured from a light aircraft. At this size print it really is a statement piece, slightly abstract and eye-catching. We were told when we arrived in Nazca that the best way to get a look at the Nazca Lines was by air so we headed to the airport and chartered a small plane together with another couple of tourists. A bit unexpected but it turned out to be a great experience even despite the heavy turbulence making the passenger next to me having a second taste of her lunch - I found the turbulence quite exhilarating however, almost like a fair-ride. This is more an overview of the surrounding desert, although you can see some traces of the Nazca lines. I really like the shape of the emerging mountains coming out of the desert bed and the contrast between the red mountains and the light, almost white desert. I also love the shapes created by water in the sand like a myriad of rivers that once flowed there. The birds-eye-view of this very arid desert landscape makes for some quite abstract and minimalist looking aerial landscapes. Although as mentioned a bit unexpected and also a bit of a dent in our travel budget it turned out to be a very memorable flight to view the Nazca Lines. A signed print from a limited edition of 25.
