History has never been lived in black and white.

This simple thought forms the foundation of my ongoing series, Coloriginals. Through the careful restoration and manual colour reconstruction of historical black-and-white photographs, I seek to bridge the distance between the past and the present.

My work is not about adding colour for its own sake. It is about restoring a sense of presence. Colour has the remarkable ability to transform historical photographs from distant documents into lived experiences. The people in these images cease to be anonymous figures from another era and become individuals we can recognise, relate to and imagine.

Each Coloriginal is created through extensive historical research and meticulous hand colouring. Clothing, architecture, materials, weather, light and period-specific colour references are carefully studied to create an authentic yet cinematic interpretation of the original photograph. Rather than documenting history, I aim to invite viewers into it.

Cinema has always inspired my work. Every image is approached like a still frame from a film—capturing a single moment while suggesting the story that unfolded before it and the one that will continue afterwards. This cinematic atmosphere encourages viewers to linger, observe and imagine.

Ultimately, my work is about memory, empathy and connection. By reintroducing colour into forgotten moments, I hope to remind us that the people who lived before us experienced the world just as vividly as we do today.
