The print is a result of exploring the phenomenon of self-portrait, i.e. the artist’s representation of themselves as a means of personal development, as a tool for self-knowledge, self-awareness, self-healing, self-disclosure, and the like.

The work is a synthesis of two opposing tendencies – to get to know yourself and to deceive yourself (and others), and it occurs as a result of complex psychological processes. These are, on the one hand, self-knowledge, i.e., examining of the attitude to your own existence, endeavoring to reveal “the true face” of the author, hidden beneath the surface of the physical appearance and on the other hand, self-disclosure, i.e., the mode and the degree of the author’s readiness to communicate their cognition to the other, that is – the audience.

As for the artistic medium, digital image processing technology was applied, ideas were carried out using graphics editing computer programs. The Self-portrait was realized as a collage of elements of photographs, scans, and computer-generated images in the medium of digital printmaking, and then materialized by the method of inkjet printing (HP Designjet) on paper for traditional printmaking (Fabriano Rosaspina 220g/m2, bianco). The result is a self-portrait, less direct, more poetic, more inner; less image of the body, more “imprint of the soul”.

In general, my works are about the issue of women and their identity with references to physical and spiritual ambivalence.
About self-reflective dialogues with the own body – a medium/transmitter of different states in the life of Femina – in mastering the processes of growing up and maturing, about a form of self/knowledge, self/disclosure.
About the concept of thematising the self-portrait that surpasses the personal level of meaning and becomes a metaphor for the problems and challenges which the modern woman faces and lives with.
About the autobiographical “imprints of the soul” that can be read as a voice of feminist awareness, but also as a cry for water in the desert.
About the ideology of modern society and relativisation of prejudice against women and their position as emancipators.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

The print emanates from an exploration into the phenomenon of self-portraiture, wherein the artist endeavors to depict themselves as a mechanism for personal development, serving as a tool for self-knowledge, self-awareness, self-healing, and self-disclosure, among other facets. This artistic creation manifests as a synthesis of two contrasting inclinations — the pursuit of self-understanding and the inclination to deceive oneself (and others). Its genesis stems from intricate psychological processes, which involve, on one hand, the meticulous examination of one's own existence and a sincere attempt to unveil the "true face" of the author, concealed beneath the veneer of physical appearance. On the other hand, it encapsulates the concept of self-disclosure, elucidating the mode and extent of the author's willingness to communicate their insights to others, namely, the audience The self-portrait materialized as a collage seamlessly integrates elements sourced from photographs, scans, and computer-generated images within the realm of digital printmaking, yielding a self-portrait that is less overt, more poetic, and profoundly introspective—a manifestation not solely of the physical body but rather an "imprint of the soul." In a broader context, my artistic endeavors orbit the intricacies of women's issues and their identity, threading connections between the physical and spiritual ambiguities. Delving into the broader ideological framework, the works scrutinize the modern societal paradigm and seek to challenge and relativize prevalent prejudices against women, positioning them as emancipators. This particular creation pays homage to the esteemed artist Frida Kahlo. It aspires to articulate emotions of passion and pain, encapsulating a profound exploration of both artistic and emotional depth.

My artistic creations manifest the nuanced tension that permeates the junctures between life's unyielding realities and the impulsive stirrings of creativity, often materializing as ambivalent projections oscillating between the tangible and the fantastical. Central to my inquiry are fundamental questions probing the essence of my existence – why does my life unfold as it does, what emotions stir within me, what propels me forward, and how does it manifest visually? I craft introspective dialogues that traverse the realms of the internal and the external, the ethereal and the corporeal. The body, in my oeuvre, serves as a medium, transmitting profound meanings across the diverse stages of life – navigating the complexities of growth, maturity, motherhood, and the inexorable march of time. While my works stem from the autobiographical, constituting imprints of the soul and windows into self-awareness and revelation, they transcend individual narratives. They metamorphose into metaphors encapsulating the universal struggles and challenges faced by women at large. These creations, seemingly a resonant voice of feminist consciousness, extend beyond, resonating as a desperate plea for sustenance in the arid expanse of contemporary society, marred by prejudices against women and their societal standing. In my artistic practice, I deem digital media the most fitting conduit for my ideas. Its emergence has not only shifted the emphasis from manual to conceptual authorship but also aligns seamlessly with my artistic rhythm and cognitive processes. This choice is a deliberate embrace of a medium that echoes the contemporary zeitgeist and provides a fertile ground for the exploration of complex themes.
