Panorama over Hornsey Rooftops towards The City Photograph - Limited Edition of 100

I captured this view, Panorama over Hornsey rooftops towards The City in the distance – on a very cold afternoon in January 2024. It is a panoramic view looking south over the rooftops of Hornsey and Crouch End, in the north London borough of Haringey. Visible in the centre foreground is Priory Park, and just above the line going to the right of the elegant Edwardian brick and stucco gabled houses of Middle Lane, continuing onto The Broadway and the Crouch End Clock Tower I love the winter light of this view, on this very cold day. These bright winter conditions offer exceptional clarity, as the freezing temperature removes much of the atmospheric humidity and haze. Using a powerful telephoto lens, in this instance a 300mm lens, can help create the geometrical interplay of the jumbled assortment of rooftops, as seen here. The minute details in the rhythmical flows of terraced houses and the rooftops, is enhanced by the telescopic compression of this expansive panoramic view, creating a pleasant graphical foreground, leading to the distant skyscrapers of The City, along with the Shard and the Barbican Towers at right. Just further to the right of this at the edge of the frame can be seen the dome of St Paul’s cathedral, half hidden behind a tree and a crane. To give an idea of the scale and distances in this view, the buildings at the top of the ridge are 2.25km away, The City skyscrapers are around 10km away, and the distant hills beyond towards Beckenham are over 30km away.
