About The Artwork
Closely cropped black spikes fill the frame in this highly graphic abstraction. The forms take on an ambiguous identity, seeming almost topographical in their dramatic high contrast. Their uniform needles point outward like dark exclamations marks against the pale sunlight. Though the photo offers just a sliver of its actual setting, the cacti still evoke the harshness of their environment. Together the centralized composition, high contrast, and repetition of sharp triangles builds textural intensity. Devoid of any living creature besides plants built to harm, the image radiates potential menace. A bold study of form which earns its title “Prick”.
