Born in a factory town in Northwestern China, Gong moved to the United States as a young adult. The experience of this cultural shift continues to shape his artistic perspective. His photographs transform familiar landscapes and everyday objects through subtle disruptions. Unexpected elements introduce quiet moments where reality gives way to imagination. The images exist between observation and invention, inviting viewers to reconsider the boundaries of the ordinary. Gong works in serialized bodies of photographs that evolve gradually as new works are introduced.
