Art Description

Photography: black & white & color, Digital, Manipulated, Paper, Photo on Paper.

The reclining nude has been described by a number of artists and historians as ”never the picture of reality.” The female reclining nude was a popular subject starting in the late 16th century right up to today’s modern times. During the mid 19th century the reclining nude was associated with women belonging to Turkish harems. These reclining figures where referred to as “Odalisque” since they often depicted the models in sexually suggested poses and settings.
My photographs in this portfolio are compilations of scans from the masters paintings and studio photographs of my model interrupting those poses, and reinforcing the concept of “never the picture of reality.”

Ode to Moise Kisling for his inspiration.
