ABOUT THE ARTWORK

For natives to flourish they must undergo extreme and adverse conditions like wildfires before they can emerge from the darkness. Vulnerable and fragile but with an infinite inner strength, singular and resolute, this flora is a visual metaphor for resilience and love. These flowers are my ode to Resilience.

Franca Turrin is a contemporary fine artist whose work illustrates the overlooked beauty of the everyday and highlights the beauty in the imperfections of the authentic through the lens of colour and light. She has over 25 years of photography industry practice. Her work has been recognised by, Australian National Photographic Portrait Gallery (finalist, 2023), Photo Collective Australian Photography Awards (finalist, 2021), The Australian Institute of Professional Photographers (Master + awards - 2013), RMIT University (1995 / 1994). She has exhibited in numerous national /international exhibitions and has also been involved with digital placemaking art screened art Federation Square and Bunjil Place, Melbourne. Authentic Lensed Photography. Light is the driving force behind the work. Technically no 2 images are the same, are many variables, as they are all in camera exposures, layered with many different lights. This further reinforces the underlying theme of all the work, in all its impermanence and transient nature and it is about finding beauty and release and acceptance in imperfection. In the spirit of ‘Wabi-sabi’ this process means that no two images are alike. Each work uniquely captures the imperfect and transient.
