Yusuf Afandi is a photographer and visual artist based in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. With a professional practice spanning over two decades, I began my journey through the analog SLR camera in 2003, cultivating a deep understanding of light and chemistry, before transitioning to digital photography in 2004. This long-term evolution allows me to combine traditional patience with modern technical versatility. In my daily life, I am dedicated to nurturing creativity as an Art Educator, teaching the foundational principles of design, photography, and painting. This practice deeply informs my own work, pushing me to find clarity and composition within the chaos of everyday life, essentially finding the cosmos within the chaos. My artistic perspective is uniquely shaped by a diverse triple-threat background: formal training at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design (FSRD) provides my technical and conceptual framework; a degree in Law instills a rigorous appreciation for structure and detail; and my years of experience as a newspaper journalist offer a concrete, detailed, and objective lens to my storytelling. My passion lies in capturing the dynamic energy and cultural nuances of the world around me, translating complex emotional tempos and hidden geometries into a distinct visual rhythm. Driven by a love for travel and music, I aim to elevate transient moments and diverse subjects into timeless observations, regardless of the theme or location.
