Waist beads have been worn for ages in Africa by women i . In more recent years they’ve gained popularity among women in the West. They’re also referred to as belly beads or waistline beads,. In Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, and other West African countries, waist beads are a symbol of femininity, fertility, sensuality, and spiritual well-being and rights of passage into womanhood. Today, in both Africa and the United States, women use waist beads for aesthetics.Sometimes they are supposed to be charms used for attracting and bonding with the opposite sex. I hope this image evokes a sense of culture and tradition experienced in west Africa
