Before turning the page, the headline caught my attention. It said, "San Francisco's billion dollar tech companies lose to voters on homelessness". It reminded me of the photograph I took in San Francisco. The picture taken in 2009, shows a black puppy belonging to a homeless couple. Out on the dirty pavement, stood two paper cups awaiting spare change. They exhibited the red Coca Cola logo prints. Red as the Santa Claus's suit. A painful perspective into the American dream. The harsh reality of homelessness, and the disappearing from life. The photograph depicts the peak of poverty on the American soil, a country with the most technologically powerful and innovative economy in the world. A country with the most magnificent natural landscapes and an old spirit A world turned up side down, strugglin for global leadership. We have reached a breaking point where all we seem to care about are Votes. or Likes. It determines our faith. A measurement for success, feeding the enemy: The EGO. What is it all the foss about? Why do we step on and crush one another in order to reach the top? What's up there? Is it to get a better view of the world we've created? Or the pride to witness the world that we have destroyed? Is the power and the wealth we crave for, to feed the hungry and to stop wars? The killings that contributes to immigration, and forces separations and detachments, which leads to more hate, anger and irreparable revenge. Is it growth that we are creeping towards? or is it a slow decay of our humanity. Location: San Francisco, USA Copyright Ⓒ by Golnaz Jamsheed (2009)
