About The Artwork

Light emerges from the treeline just behind a stand of red dogwood. Through the stand's red, light beacons, shape shifts and carves out human-like forms. An Elder says: The little people have decided to show themselves to you. It's just light, I say. Her voice scratches: How do you think they travel? Contemplating this image, we can listen to the wisdom of the Elders. They too hear mother-earth calling for us to protect this land for the generations to come. Also available 36"w x 48"h, 1/15 1800 USD + shipping 30"w x 40"h, 1/15 1350 USD + shipping Please contact curator@saatchiart.com if you are interested. Highest quality C-print. Will be shipped in a dent resistant tube.

As an artist, I seek to share the solace I experience through making images that offer a glimpse of Nature's breath, where I believe if we look carefully we can witness the world of spirit. I start with inspiration from Master photographer Ansel Adams who, among his great works, captured the motion in waterfalls. Working with this same longer exposure, I create images through the lens, painting with light. I push the edge of the traditional "still" to expose the space between it and movement, a small space in which we can witness nature's breath. And, fascinated, I attempt to capture it. I blend the still camera's long exposure with my own movement, using the influence of my cinematic work to entwine my emotion, tracing it into the work. The results of course are in the viewer's response. I continue through many seasons, to create a body of work, striving for the images to remain organic, reflecting nature, derived from nature, seeking out the spirit world. The audience sees through my eyes and feels through my heart, as I offer up images that pay homage to life.
