About The Artwork

The af Chapman was launched in early 1888 and originally known as Dunboyne, after the town in Ireland. She sailed from Cumberland to Oregon on her maiden voyage, and thereafter many voyages to Europe, Australia and North America. She was eventually sold to the Swedish Navy in 1923. As a training ship she made several trips around the world. Eventually she ran aground in Puerto Rico in 1934. In 1947 she was saved from being broken up and currently serves as a youth hostel. How many aspirant sailors have trudged across her deck with stars in their eyes and seeing the world...
