I offer each title in three size categories: small, medium, and large, on three surfaces: archival fine art paper (not mounted or framed), face-mounted behind Plexiglas/acrylic (ready to hang with included hardware), and gallery-wrapped premium canvas (also ready to hang). I limit each title to an edition of ten for each size/surface combination, signed and numbered 1/10 through 10/10.
Working with a custom fine-art printing house, I produce each photograph individually from my original digital workfile. I sign, number, and ship a photograph only after personally ensuring that it is produced to my highest standards.
I got interested in photography as a boy, when a close relative loaned me his beloved twin lens reflex camera and taught me how to process the film, make prints, and set up my own darkroom in a closet below the stairs. I've been shooting ever since. My first college was as a photography major at the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland, Ohio. I changed my major to education when I transferred to Cleveland State University but continued to take photography and art classes along with my major coursework. I ended up with a Master of Arts Degree in Education.
I gravitate toward scenes of nature - landscapes, water, mountains, wildlife, plants and flowers. My style leans toward photo-impressionism, abstraction, and abstract expressionism.
'Straight out of the camera' with minimal adjustments is often all that I need to get my message across, but I also use various techniques of both traditional photography and digital art. For example I might use in-camera approaches such as long exposure, depth compositing, selective focus, multiple exposure, or intentional camera movement to capture a particular moment or feeling.
I may make use of techniques of the digital darkroom, such as depth compositing, photo collage or image blending to emphasize a unique connection or an experience. I add painting with digital paintbrushes to some of my photographs.
