About The Artwork

The maritime advance due to the warming of the land is a fact. On the coast of Casamance - southern Senegal - we see the sands of Niafourang beach, bordering the Gambia - literally disappear. Riverside construction and fishermen boats that were on the sand had to be removed. The only salvation so that the waters of the sea do not enter land inland is a natural dune that extends throughout the coast of the state. It turns out that this dune is rich in Zirconium ore and today it is coveted by ore explorer Carnegie Astron. For more than 10 years, they have been trying to persuade the local population to support the extraction of zirconium - but the villages in the region have never been fooled. They resisted and still resist today - preventing and often making barricades so that this company will not be able to settle in the coveted dunes. They know that if there is exploration in the dunes, in addition to killing the land for good years, there will be nothing left to prevent maritime advance. Knowing this reality, I looked for an image that could create an imaginary reflection on this issue. The fragility of the bicycle is a representation of the people's willpower. The dynamo that keeps the bike moving requires a lot of effort and balance. The bicycle is positioned against the tide, which in turn is the representation of capitalism that advances with its colossal strength. The bike is in the middle - unwavering and ready for the challenge. Kabadio and the neighboring villages will resist - for it is the land of the Mandingas, Djolas, Peuls, Serrères .. of ethnic groups that have always fought for their ideals and for their lands.
