The Praying Khmer Statue Photograph

The Praying Statue. Part of a Khmer pagoda located in Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam. Tra Vinh is home to a large Khmer community with around 140 pagodas in the area, all in daily use. You are experiencing the living Khmer culture outside of Cambodia. I discovered the colourful Khmer pagodas when I visited Tra Vinh city on a commercial assignment. From thereon I have been frequently travelling to the province, making it one of my personal projects. This image was created with an old Nikkor 1960's vintage lens, creating a very distinct bokeh pattern. Working with vintage lenses adds to the overall atmosphere. It also slows you down as a photographer, every shot carefully set up on a tripod and framed in camera. The process is similar to working with large format cameras. It takes time. For me, the process is the equivalent to visual meditation. A rewarding process. I do hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
