About the Artist

Ali Kursun

Switzerland

Born in Istanbul, Ali Kursun is a Turkish and Swiss visual artist based in Geneva. Entirely self-taught, his approach to painting is deeply intuitive.

He began fifteen years ago with dry pastels, laying earthy tones across the canvas until his first compositions emerged. From those early works, his practice has grown to span painting and photography, both approached the same way, through experiment, exploration, and instinct. The medium may change, but the search does not: each work is an attempt to capture what people feel and how those feelings pass between us.

That search runs through every body of work he has made, from his first solo Exhibition Stubborn (2011) to You (2025) at the Centre Culturel du Manoir de Cologny — barriers, rhythms, connection, silence, time, belief, self. Different angles, one question. In 2023, his work was shown at the StART Art Fair at London's Saatchi Gallery.

"In essence, art is the unspoken language of feelings. It is about perceptual worlds and senses. You either feel a piece of art or you don’t. Art is intuitive — a universal system of communication," he reflects.

Ali Kursun lives and creates in Geneva, Switzerland.
