The World in a Shell - Limited Edition of 1 Photograph

The process of making this work is akin to taking a deep dive, surrounding myself in color and form, struggling, stretching, exploring, pushing beyond my own boundaries and then, finally . . . breathing. In this image, the inside of a seashell found near the ferry at the Hamptons in NY is transformed into a new world. The finished Mixed Media artwork can be viewed from a distance, as an abstract work, and up close, as detailed universe. I enjoy looking at objects differently, searching for small areas of intrigue, finding beauty in small incongruities and unexpected surfaces. These surfaces include ceramic glazes, stone, wood, seashells, and rusty pipes. I find form and rhythm in the abstraction of objects found in my environment. In my Mixed Media work, I use a giclée process to print the digital photographs on a matte fiber paper. I then draw and paint on the surface, creating landscapes on top of the photographs.
