ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Theyyam is a village ritual practiced in coastal districts of Kerala and Karnataka, the southern states of India. These rituals and customs are over a thousand years old. It is believed that the person performing Theyyam is a channel to God and hence they seek his blessings. There are hundreds of variations in which Theyyam is practiced currently. Pictures from this series were taken at a Theyyam Festival conducted in Kannur, Kerala, India.
