His fascination with time and movement along with his ability to disappear behind his camera led him to reflect about how much life happens in the supposedly most insignificant places of a city. Time-Lapse are human portraits of cities around the world. They are also quotidian expressions, that combined, create a unique narrative of life on a wall, in a place in the world. Xan Padrón documents the ecosystem of cities and finding beauty through pause and through the small, collective gestures of daily life. *The Time-Lapse project has been exhibited at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the Pfizer Building NY, and art fairs Photo LA, Art on Paper NYC, and The Other Art Fair, presented by Saatchi Art in London, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Featured on the cover of the Saatchi Art catalog (2019), New England Review (NER), Die Zeit Magazine (Germany), PRISM International (Canada), and Photo World Magazine (China), Xan Padrón’s Time-Lapses were selected for the Art on Link program in New York City.

Xan Padrón (Galicia, Spain 1969) is a Galician photographer living in New York City. The son of an old-school journalist, Xan Padrón grew up used to be the silent observer who sees things quietly and finds stories everywhere. As a former profesional touring musician, traveling the world with his bass and his camera he was able to pursue his career as a photographer focused on the people around him. Xan Padrón’s fascination with time and movement, coupled with an uncanny ability to disappear behind the lens, unnoticed by his subjects, brought him to the realization of how much life happens even at the most seemingly insignificant location of a city. After diverse street photography projects in New York City, in 2011 he began his acclaimed project, Time-Lapse: a collection of portraits of various cities through the people who inhabit them. His series Time-Lapse has been exhibited, among other places, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, The Pfizer Building in New York, and in the art fairs Photo LA, Art on Paper NYC and The Other Art Fair, presented by Saatchi Art in London, New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Chicago. His work has been published on the cover of the eleventh edition of the anthology Race, Class and Gender in the United States (MacMillan, 2020), in the sociology volume Personal Networks (Cambridge University Press, 2021), and in international publications such as the New England Review (NER), Die Zeit Magazine (Germany), PRISM International (Canada), and Photo World Magazine (China). His Time-Lapses were on the cover of the autumn catalog of Saatchi Art (2019) and were selected for the program Art on Link (#ArtOnLink) of the City of New York (LinkNYC, CityBridge 2020) where Xan Padrón’s sociological portraits were shared on more than 1,700 digital kiosks citywide. In 2023, Xan Padrón was invited by the MTA Arts & Design Program in New York City to exhibit a selection of his Time Lapse series at the Bryant Park subway station (42nd Street and 6th Avenue).
