Will is a handsome Wagyu bull photographed in Canterbury, New Zealand. This bull is not a cow and must be treated as such. Unlike cows, bulls are domineering, testosterone driven, and ruthlessly competitive. Their aggression is a survival switch that can flip swiftly, come without warning, and offers no apologies or second chances. This was Wagyu Will. Although beautiful and I truly did admire his beauty, he was fast, swift and dangerous and I knew his horns would be lethal. I did not dare enter the paddock as I knew I wouldn’t get any second chances. Even standing from the outside I was extremely nervous. I watched how fast he was! He did not walk anywhere, he ran to wherever he wanted to get to. I still needed his attention so I would make noises, as soon as I did, his ears shot forward as his eyes darted dead centre on me and my lens. I quickly shot a few frames before he would run off again. Grateful I was able to capture his attention when I did. Will is a handsome Wagyu bull photographed in Woodend, Canterbury, at the Xcell Breeding centre. The word Wagyu refers to all Japanese beef cattle ('Wa' means Japanese or japanese-style and 'gyu' means cattle).

New Zealand
After growing up in Australia and teaching for a few years I set off for an adventure in the UK where I met the man of my dreams. A kiwi, in fact. Little did I know that this chance encounter would lead me to a life with him in New Zealand working on the family farm. I had always been a city girl at heart but I fell head over heels with rural life. The breathtaking scenery of New Zealand had me well and truly captivated as did rural living and the gorgeous animals on the farm. HQ is an 1100 ha farm in Hororata, about an hour west of Christchurch. It is my husband Fraser’s family farm, a far cry from my upbringing in the Australian suburbs. My photographic journey began as a family photographer. As a former primary school teacher, I developed my love of photography while living in the Wairarapa, when the school I was teaching at sent me on my first photography course so I could teach it as a class at the school, and then before long, I was photographing families as a side hustle and quite enjoying it! However, once we moved to the family farm I couldn’t stop taking photos of the animals around me while I fell in love with my new life. When I am not looking after my children, I will be wandering around our farm or surrounding farms photographing animals. It was a way to capture those unique split second scenes and make them last a lifetime. It started simply with a stunning highland cow print on my wall that got so much attention from my friends and family that I was overwhelmed with requests to hang moments I had captured on their walls too. Every farmer had a story, every animal had a personality and my photoshoots became their own adventure. Before too long, and much to my delight, I found myself with a full-time business on my hands. I am so lucky to know have created a fine-art series for people to enjoy and live with in their every day life and hang inside their homes or businesses all over the world.
