The hike over the jetty to Wood End Light in Provincetown, MA, on Cape Cod can be precarious - go when the tide is low! - but it is a worthwhile journey. My black and white photomontage features the lighthouse backed by a starry sky. I wanted to present the lighthouse as it might be seen if fully illuminated at night, while retaining the stars in the black sky. Since my youth, I have been fascinated by the night sky. I spent many peaceful nights in my back yard in the country with chirping crickets and my telescope. My hope is that this image allows the viewer a moment of quiet contemplation. This image is available in the following limited edition sizes (please click on magnifier on each photo to see full image. When you do this you can see the size at the bottom) (20) 36 x 24" (34 x 22" + 1" border) (40) 24 x 16" (22 x 14" + 1" border) (90) 18 x 12" (16 x 10" + 1" border) The photo is printed with a 1" border. If you prefer not to have a border, please let me know and I will remove it so the image size will be enlarged to the size of the base dimensions. The photo will be signed and numbered on the back with archival ink and you will receive a certificate of authenticity. Prices may increase as editions sell. Printed with a 1" border on Professional Lustre paper, unmatted and unframed. They will ship in a rigid tube. When the above limited editions sell out, the image will no longer be printed and sold as such. The artist reserves the right to use this image for commercial purposes.

I make photos and create montages that capture beauty and evoke emotion, both of the natural world and of human-made structures and objects. At age 12, my dad gave me a vintage Argus C3 rangefinder camera. Around the same time I became interested in astronomy and saved my babysitting money to buy a used Celestron 6” Newtonian reflector telescope. My dad built me a little observatory on our back hill and darkroom space in the basement. I saved more money and filled it with used darkroom equipment, developing gelatin silver prints from my 35mm film. By night I was regularly gazing through time and space, acutely aware of the vastness of the universe and Earth’s insignificance within that space. But by day I was out with my camera marveling at nature and capturing the beauty of our little miracle planet. Today my childhood passions merge when I use my images of the night sky as a backdrop to elicit contemplation of our place in the universe. I still feel our planet is precious and continue to capture the beauty of it, but I cannot ignore the impact humans have on it due to population growth as well as political and economic factors. While do I capture the results of that impact, I also see beauty in our structures and objects.
