The Yanomami Indians are regarded to be the last stone age people residing in the Amazon rainforest. They are the last human remnant of the noble savage, the natural ecologist who lived at peace in nature in an enlightened unity with all of creation. The land and the delicate ecological balance of the rainforest where they have been living for millennia have been jeopardized by the rapid encroachment of Westerners. Because of the mahogany and the strategic minerals abundant in the area, the Yanomami people have become pawns in high-stakes international games of resource protection and acquisition while deforestation, disease and assimilation reduce them to the state of semi urbanized impoverishment that other indigenous groups in the Amazon basin have experienced. This repertoire of images is an excerpt from my project on the Yanomami Indians in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest in the making since 1995. Photographic records of the Yanomami Indians are important to preserve for our children, the knowledge of one of the last Neolithic tribes in the world. I sell my work on this site in order to fund my project. Giclée print using pigment-based inks with archival substrates on fine art archival Hahnemühle paper. I am a Brazilian born American photographer with a Masters Degree in Photography from New York University and a B.A. in Social Communication from the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil. I am the winner of the Prix Photo Web 2012 promoted by the Chamber of Commerce France - Brazil, the French Embassy in Brazil and the Alliance Française in Rio de Janeiro . I travel the world and specialize in ethnographic subject matters such as peoples and cultures outside the mainstream of Western civilization. Since 1995 I have been working on a photographic documentation project about the Yanomami Indians in the Brazilian Amazon Rainforest. My work with that vanishing Stone Age tribe has generated three thematic exhibitions. The first gallery showing called "Yanomami: The Last Days of Eden" opened in Strasbourg, France in 1998 and received good reviews in the local newspapers. Three others followed in the United States; the first in the spring of 2000 called "Yanomami: Amazon Stone Age Survivors" at Taranto Gallery in Chelsea, New York City which was reprised in March 2004 at the Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts gallery in downtown Binghamton, New York. Another version of that show called "Yanomami: Children of Eden" was installed in the fall of 2001 at the Hillwood Art Museum in Brookville in the C.W. Post campus of the Long Island University in New York. In July 2011 I produced my first exhibition in Brazil entitled "New York Street Scenes" in the ACBEU art gallery in Salvador, Bahia which received glowing reviews from the local press. That show is currently touring the country. My photographs have been widely published throughout the world. A seven image photo essay has been printed in Newsweek as well as multiple photo spreads in Time Magazine, Science Magazine and the Boston Globe. My work has also appeared in the New York Times, The New York Post, Newsday, Gannett Newspapers, Asahi Shimbun (Japan), Veja Magazine (Brazil) and Geo Lino Magazine (Germany). My commercial clients include UNICEF, The Ford Foundation, United Way, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, Greenpeace, Bloomberg L.P., among others. I have been based in New York City since 1986 and in Salvador, Brazil since 2010. I have been travelling the world working on personal and commissioned projects.
