About this piece: I have always been intrigued by the concept of celestial music, also known as musica universalis. Since ancient times it is said that the movement created by planets and stars produced sounds. Although not available to the human ear, there has been plenty of literature written around them through history. What do they sound like? Many musicians wondered that too and came up with their own answers. I came up with an image instead, my own pattern, almost mathematical, but full of variations, a vertical pentagram that follows freely its own rules. I also focused on the idea on how important it is, in music, the silence between the notes. So, this piece is extremely depurated, lines dancing as they please, but always straight, always with a certain order, over an off-white background. They are a code, a message to be interpreted by viewers. Finally, as good music needs to offer different variations of intensity, the white patterned background has been interrupted by a solid mass of dark blue, the night, the storm present in other pieces of its series, it reveals itself here as well. And adds both richness and certainty to this already complex ethereal music: we will not only relish in imagining music from the celestial bodies, but also we will have the sounds of nature, rain, thunders, wind, the comforting ones we all know. Because this piece is composed of two papers, it allows two different positions: the dark blue mass can either be located at the far right or in the center. Please view pictures. About this Collection. Les Météores: According to etymological dictionaries, the word “meteor” comes from Medieval Latin and it refers to “the celestial phenomena, things in heaven above”. Therefore, it includes all meteorological elements from wind, snow, rain, fog… to aurora, lightning, thunders. Then, beyond the atmosphere, shooting stars and meteorites arrive: alien matter becoming a meteor until it reaches the ground. For this series, I observed all these heavenly bodies and, through colour, lines and compositions, interpreted what I sensed, translating it over paper. Les Météores series is a reflection around the contrasts and transits between the tangible and intangible, light and darkness, sound and silence, movement and stillness. An exploration of the many reveries we often enjoy while looking at the sky and wondering about all its mystery. Les Météores is a series/collection of 7 pieces that comes two years later than From the river bank series. Many elements are still present such as creating space through stripes and geometry, searching essentialism and pure abstraction, but the inspiration has now shifted from earth to air. In some pieces there is still a search around matter, but others focus more on ether. A particularity of the 5 first pieces in this series is that they are presented in a round format with no square support in their background. They all have a diameter of 55cm. The technique used is lithography except for number 5 and 7 that are also made from collage. All pieces in this series belong to a limited edition of 8 and made with hanhemulher paper of 300g.
