About The Artwork

This is a photopolymer (photoetch) etching from a photograph I took from a bus traveling across the Turkey/Bulgaria border. It might have been while I was going back to Istanbul from Burgas. There was a “Whiteout” while I was at the border and we (the passengers on the bus) had to get off while the customs guards checked our bags, or not. I say not because sometimes they never even looked at your bag, but you still had to have it open on the bench. This was the first time I had experienced one of these “Whiteouts” and you really couldn’t see your hand in front of you unless it was near your face. After leaving the border and settling down for the journey back to Istanbul I took a few photos out the coach window and got this. The first time I printed it, it was too dark but then I mixed extender base into the black about 70% extender-30% black and this helped to give more depth because the trees in the background became lighter and therefore seemed to recede. Photopolymer (Toyobo solar plates) are fantastic for keeping detail, you lose nothing of the original detail.
