Giclee prints use pigments like the pigments in paints, unlike digital prints which use ink. Why is this important? Inks are not permanent and fade over time. Pigments do not fade. So pigments on Giclee prints are more permanent. The result is a print that is close to an original painting. Giclee prints are printed on Fine Art Archival paper. Archival paper is made from cotton and not trees (normal paper). Normal paper has acid in it. So it starts to deteriorate over time. Archival paper, has no acid in it. So it is more permanent. It feels more like heavy weight watercolour paper.
