Checkpoint Charlie Print - Limited Edition of 30

I was in Berlin in 1989 before the Wall came down, and used to cross at Checkpoint Charlie daily. This work comes from a series of paintings and prints about East/West Berlin, exploring some of the themes brought up by the implosion of the ex-Soviet block. The print is printed using five screens, one for each colour, starting with the pinks and yellows of the urban lights and finishing with a burnt sienna for the face of the driver, reflected in the wing mirror of his car. The bulk of the 'drawing' is provided by the military green/grey of the central figure, with one or two grey highlights.
