This piece is a satirical pairing of a car getting towed with the Disneyland logo. This print on canvas was a part of a short run of silver paintings I made in late 2012 and early 2013. It spun off from a joke imagining the good 'ol family station wagon getting hauled away as the oblivious family roams the park. The larger context is how easy people are distracted as they get screwed over.

Alexander Key is an emerging contemporary artist from Charlotte, North Carolina. His work appropriates a wide variety of cultural ephemera, extracting familiar aesthetics and re-contextualizing them into new compositions that act as bittersweet commentaries. Mining from the resonance of childhood images and personal nostalgia, he explores the impact of these mental keepsakes on a broader collective memory. Working primarily in the medium of silkscreen printing, his work ranges from monotone prints to densely layered paintings. Please reach out if you are interested in showing his work or want to know more about his artistic practice.
