About The Artwork

Both Fidelio pieces are inspired by a love of chess. In the famous opera "Fidelio" there is a desperation and strategy for winning. The skull dominates this dramatic scene appearing to hold court while observing the players in these precise moments of decision in this eternal game of life.

An artist my entire life. Born into a family of artist's with deep and rich appreciation for culture and value. My father an artist and writer, my mother an Opera singer. Charting a career relevant to the times we live in is a complex task. I have chosen a life of looking through the fashion glass of culture and art to bring forward my own vision. This can be a solitary task at times. In all of my work there is a duality. Not uncommon in the arts. I can't help but see the world around me as one surface or face, and another ayer or subtext as the other side of the face. In the "Bull series I am courting the ancient "Crete" civilizations. The "Bull" becomes a two sided or split skull. Dividing the skull into two parts is a metaphor for light and dark, good and evil, heaven and hell etc. We see all around us, a duality, in nature and human kind. We are truly divided your intuitive (right side) and (analytical) left side of our brain. This division leaves a space in-between that can evoke a middle space that leaves room for introspection. The "Bull" in many cultures has been an archetype for spiritual power and strength, particularly in ancient Greece and Rome. Many of my references are from literature and writing of Mary Renault, "Bull from the Sea". It is my admission that I am deeply influenced by ancient Greek and Roman art. Within the "Pompeii" series lie's a warning. While we live in great splendor and richness we also live in a time of peril and under the shadow of a great volcano, "Vesuvius". All my pieces reflect that love of natural beauty that surrounds us while little warnings signal and hide about in our lives and design. Blue skies are not to be taken for granted.
