Limited Edition Exclusive print. Print run is limited to just 50. They are printed on Somerset Velvet (Museum Quality) and come signed, numbered and with a Certificate of Authenticity. Can be supplied framed. I really liked the energy and emotion of this image. I build them up in a series of very thin layers - often smudging and blending with my fingers - so you will literally have my fingerprint on your painting. I found this during a clearcut of my studio during lockdown - it's an old studio sketch circa 2015. One of my red chalk drawings - red chalk is rarely used these days but was commonly used by the old masters I worked on this over the course of 2-3 weeks, constantly aware of not overworking it. The medium itself is very soft and delicate and can easily be blown away - I think it lent itself well to the delicacy and vulnerability of the pose. For me the key is to accentuate the interesting/significant parts and play down the less interesting bits. This brings a balance and focus to the work. I also like to leave bits out - the brain tends to naturally fill in the gaps once it recognises what is going on - when you see a friend from a distance, you cannot see any detail but you recognise them. I think this keeps an image interesting as the viewer is challenged. I guess this is in contrast with realism.

I am a classically trained artist specialising in capturing the female form. I also teach life-drawing and offer private art tuition from my studio in Windsor. As you can see I specialise in capturing the female form - subtle, classical nudes in oil, charcoal, graphite and red chalk. I trained at Heatherley's School of Art, London and The National College of Art & Design in Dublin. My work has been included in the books ‘Images of Women in Art’ and ‘Musings of Miss Yellow’. Testimonial “Patrick Palmer is a modern master of figurative art. His post-romantic nudes are not only exquisitely painted, but also dreamy, delicate and suggestive. They only hint at sensuality and evoke fantasy in the subtle and elegant manner that distinguishes art from pornography.” Claudia Moscovici, Co-founder of and art critic (“Romanticism and Post-romanticism”, Lexington Books, 2007).
